The USB standard is evolving. For many years now, Micro USB has been the standard for our phones and tablets (save for you Apple fans). Now we’re moving into a new era where USB Type-C is going to rule the roost. Everyone is going to have to at some point look for new cables and wall adapters for this new standard and Choetech is one of the first companies on the market with their USB Type-C cables and adapters. Let’s take a look at what they have to offer.

USB Type-C Cables

Choetech is offering two types of cables: USB Type-C to USB Type-C and USB Type-A to USB Type-C. The USB C to USB C has the newer, reversible connector on both ends. This lets the cable transfer data and charger faster than other cables on the market. You’ll need a new wall adapter to use this cable but Choetech has you covered there. We’ll talk about that in a bit.

Choetech USB Type-C

Using the USB Type-C to USB Type-C cable and Choetech’s wall adapter, I was able to get charging speeds of (max) 2170mA. This qualifies as “charging rapidly” to the Nexus 6P and have your phone charged up in a jiffy. Since it uses the new standard, this USB Type-C cable will also support much faster data transfer rates over USB if you’re pulling or pushing files from  your computer to phone.

The USB Type-A to USB Type-C Cable is a bit of another story. This cable is all about convenience. If you’re like me, you have about 17 million USB Type A wall adapters and replacing all of those is not only an expensive but annoying task. The USB Type-A to USB Type-C adapter will allow you to continue using all of your current wall adapters and still charge your new USB Type-C phone. The speeds won’t be as good, about 800mA (max) and data will transfer slower, but these aren’t bleeding edge technology so you shouldn’t expect that.

Choetech USB Type-C

A big advantage to the USB Type-A to USB Type-C cable, besides price, is the fact that it DOESN’T charge rapidly. Fast charging is an awesome technology that has it’s place, but it isn’t always needed. Charging rapidly heats up your battery and reduces the life cycle of it. Why do that to your phone if it’s charging on your bedside table overnight?

The cables are both shielded with a high quality rubber outside that will keep it from getting cut and destroyed. The heads are equally well protected and should avoid snapping off for repeated used. Overall, a really high quality cable.

USB Type C Wall Adapter

If you’re picking up a USB Type-C to USB Type-C cable, you’re going to need a wall adapter for it. Old USB Type-A adapters won’t work with the new standard due to the new, reversible adapter and Type-C supports charging speeds much higher than USB 2.0 Type-A.

Choetech USB Type-C

This wall adapter from Choetech can charge at 5V/3A, 9V/2A or 12V/1.5A. Extremely fast speeds for a phone. I can get my 6P charged from dead to full with the Type-C adapter and cable in about an hour and a half. The adapter is solidly built and I would have no qualms about keeping it in my bag on a day to day basis.

There’s nothing not to like about both the Choetech USB cables and wall adapter. They’re all well made and provide fast and consistent charging speeds. These will work for a range of devices like the Nexus 6P and 5X, Pixel C, and Apple’s Macbook.

And, if you need any more convincing, they get the Bensons seal of Approval.
