I was 11 years old in 1982(yes, I’m telling my age here) when the original Tron movie was released. When I saw it, I was instantly hooked and wanted so badly for there to be several movies in the series made as quickly as possible. Unfortunately, the sequel to Tron wasn’t made for another 28 years. That was in 2010 when Tron: Legacy was released and now it seems that as of today Disney says we’ll be seeing a Tron 3 very soon according to sources over at Entertainment Weekly.
It was originally reported by The Hollywood Reporter and below is their quote.
Unfortunately Tron: Legacy didn’t have a great box office showing, but it was decent enough to keep it persistent in pop culture and one of those movie series that people just always want to see something from. I’m sure a lot of that has to do with the success of Daft Punk and them doing the soundtrack for the movie.
Tron is obviously a staple name within Disney and has been for a long time. There is now a ride, or roller coaster of some sort, planned to be made at Disney Shanghai some time soon. Exactly when we’re not sure but it appears to be in the summer of 2016.
With all the work that goes into making a CGI movie such as Tron, or any sequel, it’s likely we won’t see this third installment until some time in 2017, and possibly not even until 2018. Regardless, at least it’s not going to be another 28+ years between Tron: Legacy and Tron 3, or whatever the final name ends up being.
Let us know in the comments if Tron 3 is a movie you’re anxiously awaiting and if you’ll be going to check it out on opening day or not.
Disney appears to be taking it to the next level. That’s a very alluring actress on that Tron-bike.
@john98661:disqus Right! I think Disney has really stepped up their game to be honest.
