I review a lot of things, and lights are one of those things I don’t review a lot of in particular, there’s just not many requests for them honestly. I don’t know why as they’re something that we all need and the technology is changing all the time and this should be something that’s noteworthy, or review-worthy. Today for review though I do have a light, it’s from a company called OxyLED and it’s the T-02, yes not a fancy name but it’s something that I’ve come to be very happy with. The T-02 has 10 LEDs in it, and a motion sensor that only turns it on when it notices motion and will stay on as long as there is motion, but then it will turn itself off automatically. The price is $14.99, and it’s very well made of mostly aluminum and it runs on AAA batteries which should last for quite sometime.

About The OxyLED T-02

The OxyLED T-02 itself is made from aluminum and plastic though it’s mostly aluminum so it’s much heavier than it looks. I was actually a bit surprised at how much weight the T-02 actually had to it once I removed it from the package. On the top or front you’ll see a white strip that goes along the length which is where the 10 LED lights are. There is a small dome shaped part in the center of the T-02 which is where the motion sensor is located, but it’s different than you might think. It’s an infrared sensor that works with your body heat that has a working distance of about 3 meters. You can’t see it but there’s also a luminance sensor built-in to detect ambient light levels so it doesn’t come on when it doesn’t need to. A very well thought and planned product so far in my opinion.

On the back, or what’s actually considered the bottom, you’ll find what looks like a white strip, this is actually an adhesive strip attached to a magnet. The idea here is that you attach the magnet to wherever you need to mount it and then you can easily remove the T-02 to change the batteries and put it back up. The magnet is very strong and so is the adhesive. This is again a very well thought out product in this aspect as the battery case definitely needs to be in the back of the device, but if it were mounted with a screw or something similar, it would be quite a pain to change the batteries.

The one thing that does concern me with regards to the adhesive on the back side of the magnetic strip is what it’s going to do to the wall if/when I ever decide to remove it to relocate it elsewhere. I have a feeling it’s probably going to peel the top layer of the sheetrock off with it due to how adhesive the back is.

How It Works

The sensor works very well at all times from my day to day to use. It says it works with humans and I’m pretty sure that doesn’t mean it’s limited to only working with humans. Every time either of my two cats walk by it it comes on as well. Not necessarily a bad thing and in a way it might be rather difficult to prevent this from happening. I found the sensor is actually more sensitive than the specs state, it comes on even farther than the 3 meters it says it works from. Again, this isn’t necessarily a bad thing, but it’s something to note for some people depending on where they decide to mount it and for various situations.

The sensor also has an auto off feature so that if it doesn’t sense anyone there it will turn off within 15 seconds. The good thing about the sensor is that if you’re there moving around and doing things it will stay on until you move out of range. I never had it turn off while I was within range of the sensor. Again, this is the way it should work because you normally want it to stay on until you get so far away from the product.

Battery life is really not something I could test. I’ve had this product for about 3 weeks and of course when I received it I put the batteries in it at that time and they are still going strong. The listing on Amazon says the battery life for the OxyLED T-02 should last six months with little to no use or a month with heavy usage. I would take a guess for the way I use the light it would last a good 2 – 4 months if not longer.

Final Thoughts

For the cheap price of $14.99 you really can’t go wrong with the OxyLED T-02 at all. The amount of light it actually gives off is way more than I could have ever expected. The 10 LED lights are very powerful and that is certainly a good thing for a lot of situations. As mentioned above they are easy to install and they stick very well, at least to the surface I installed mine on to. Battery life seems very decent as does the range for them to turn on/off. I truly feel these are worth every penny and I’m considering getting a few more for when I move here soon to install them as soon as I move in.

Stay tuned in the coming week or so for a review of another product from OxyLED. They sent me a couple of different items so I’ll be showing that one off as well and tell you all the great details about it and if it’s worth it like the OxyLED T-02 certainly is.
