When it comes to buying technology, many of us choose to purchase that extra level of protection for our devices. For one thing, if you’ve spent money on a smartphone, tablet or laptop, you pretty much want to make sure that you get your money’s worth out of it. Secondly, it’s always fun shopping for a cool accessory that you can show to your friends and family. Ryan Frank (in collaboration with the UK record label TAPE) has a whole line up of awesome sleeves and we just had the time to review some of these interesting products!

Cork Sleeve

The Cork Sleeves

The TAPEgear line of sleeves is made of environmentally friendly cork fabric. Cork fabric is extracted from trees found in parts of Europe and Africa. The process is entirely renewable as the cork shavings are taken off trees which are 25 – 30 years old and do not require any deforestation. Subsequent shavings are taken approximately every 9 years and the trees can live for around 200 years. Furthermore, material which has reached the end of its life cycle can easily be recycled – another thumbs up from tree huggers!

Cork Sleeve

Whilst we’re more used to seeing cork used as a wine bottle stopcock, cork fabric is certainly a welcome breath fresh of air from the usual neoprene sleeves we’ve gotten used to. The ‘made in Britain’ sleeves have a premium look and feel that attracts envious views wherever you go. The soft texture is both soft on the hands and provides adequate grip. Although the sleeves do feel delicate (and you have an urge to be very careful when handling them), a couple of weeks of intensive use have left no indications of wear and tear on them.
