Wii U owners and specifically Mario Kart 8 owners will be pleased to know that some downloadable content is coming their way. If you have been playing Mario Kart as long as we have, you know the basic premise: Characters from the Super Mario universe strap themselves in a motorcar and race to win the gold. In each iteration of this game, Nintendo has made changes to make each one unique. The announced Mario Kart 8 DLC will include a change that is very intriguing.

In many ways, this DLC is actually something that Nintendo lovers have never seen before. Nintendo wants to shake things up and go back to being the powerhouse that they once were, and it shows. Nintendo will be releasing two Mario Kart 8 DLC packs starting in November of this year. The first release will be the Legend Of Zelda pack. Keep reading for a break-down.

Mario Kart 8 DLC 1

The Legend Of Zelda Pack 1

This pack is a personal favorite of mine as I am sure you all know I love Zelda games. This pack will include LINK as a playable character. Yes…I am not kidding in any way, shape, or form. LINK will be throwing blue shells at anyone that crosses his path. This is a big step for the Mario Kart franchise as this opens the door to other famous Nintendo characters to join in on the fun. A cross-over like this is something we usually see in the Super Smash Bros. franchise.

Link isn’t the only character added to the roster. Within this pack you will also get “Tanooki Mario” which is basically raccoon Mario but in a full blown raccoon suit. This suit first appeared in Super Mario Bros. 3 and let Mario turn himself into stone. While I am sure you won’t be able to turn into stone (although that would be awesome) you will certainly be able to play as the famed version of Mario.

The other new playable character is “Cat Peach” who made her debut in “Super Mario 3D world”. She is cute, she is cuddly, and very much pink. I can see cat lovers using her a lot on “Caturdays.”  Four new vehicles are also included in the Mario Kart 8 DLC Pack 1. While three are being kept a secret, one is being shown as “Blue Falcon” Which is Captain Falcon’s ride in the famous Nintendo game “F-Zero”.   You will enjoy this new whip, on 8 new tracks and 2 new cups.

Mario Kart 8 DLC Extra

You can get this pack when it is released in November, OR you can advance buy it to be given some additional content. Gamers that advance buy this pack will also get 8 new colors for Yoshi and Shy Guy which can be used immediately. This pack individually, will cost $7.99 USD. If you also want the Animal Crossing Pack 2 which will be released in May 2015, you can bundle buy them for $11.99USD.
